Discovery boat tour of Polvese Island and Maggiore Island

Lake Trasimeno is enhanced by three small islands: Isola Polvese, Isola Maggiore and Isola Minore. The first two can also be visited, and are the ideal destination for an exciting boat tour to share with the whole family.

Connections to the islands are guaranteed throughout the year by FBusItalia, with greater hourly availability in the summer. Polvese Island can be reached from the San Feliciano pier, while the Castiglione del Lago pier is one of the most convenient for reaching Maggiore Island.

Polvese Island is located in the southern part of the basin and represents the perfect combination of history and nature. It is included in the Trasimeno Regional Park and will amaze you with its unspoilt charm and incredible variety of landscape. It is also home to sites of high historical and architectural value, such as the medieval Castle, the Church of San Giuliano with its lovely frescoes and the ancient Olivetano Monastery.

The Isola Maggiore is located in the northern part and is dominated by artistic, spiritual and cultural testimonies. We advise you to start your visit by visiting the characteristic fishing village, and then go into the heart of the island; here you will find remains from the Roman era, small parish churches, the imposing Guglielmi Castle and the prestigious sites of St. Francis, linked to the stay of the saint from Assisi, who spent a few days here in 1211.
